Course Update for July 13, 2018

What another wonderful week of great summer (golfing) weather. Whether it’s at the golf course, enjoying summer activities in the city or away somewhere on vacation, I hope everyone is enjoying the summer season so far.

Maintaining the golf course through the peak season is always rewarding. This is when all the pre- and early-season planning and preparations come together and we are able to simply execute. At this time of the year, every small detail is important for us to get the product we’d set out to achieve. Every watering, every topdressing, and every fertilizer application has to be planned and executed with precision. This also includes every mowing.

Daily mower maintenance is essential. If mower blades are not sharpened and set up properly, it can have a major impact on the quality of the playing surface and the health of the plant.

Here is a brief breakdown of a typical reel mower unit and its components:

Poorly maintained and dull reel mowers result in the leaves of the grass plant being pinched or torn rather than cleanly cut.
