Course Update for December 6, 2013

It has been a busy week of construction on the new 15th hole. All the trees have been cleared and chipped, and stumps have been removed and will be taken offsite next week. The creek work has progressed nicely; with another week of weather like this, the re-configuring of the creek will be completed. All the rock for the new creek banks and plantings will be installed and straw mulch applied for winter erosion control. The Helical Piles for the new bridge have been installed and concrete footings will be poured Friday, the final bridge abutments will be poured next…

15th HoleConstruction

Course Update for November 29, 2013

After years of discussions and months of planning and permitting, the 15th hole renovation has finally started. Tree removal at the new green location and the new 16th tee location have been completed. Chipping and stump removal will finish next week in preparation for earthworks. The temporary bridge has been installed and the creek channel works started today. The creek work will take approximately 6-8 weeks; this will put us on schedule to have the final earthworks completed in the spring. I have included a couple of pictures showing the new green location and the view from the new tee…

Course Update for October 11, 2013

Fall is upon us and that means cooler mornings with longer dews and leaves everywhere! The turf team will work hard to keep the course free of leaves and debris by blowing and mulching leaves in the rough, but throughout the day more leaves will fall so keep a close eye on your ball. As previously mentioned the turf team has begun its fall cultural practices, when the weather permits we will be core aerifying fairways in the valley and performing solid tyne aerification on tees throughout the course. Tees will be completed throughout the day when time permits and…

Course Update for October 4, 2013

It seems like September was a blur and was gone in a blink of an eye. The weather these last couple of weeks has been great, and I hope everyone had the chance to enjoy the course. October has arrived and beginning next week we will be starting some end-of-the-season cultural practices. Weather permitting, the plan is to core aerify one fairway a day. This will help with rooting, compaction and overall plant health. The turf department will be trying to complete as many fairways as we can but it is all weather dependent. Tees will be completed near the…

BluegrassBunkersCart PathsConstructionCurbs

Course Update for September 27, 2013

Course Update It has been a productive week for the turf department with the completion of the curb work. On Tuesday we began backfilling and grading around the new curbs in preparation for sod, and yesterday the sodding was completed. We also finished sodding bluegrass around the new cart paths on #9, 11 and repairs to edges of the paths on #2, 13 and #12. The remaining fairway spots on #11 were sodded with bentgrass, so please play all the above noted areas as ground under repair and obey the signs and ropes for cart traffic. As I mentioned last…

Course Update for September 20, 2013

It is now the middle of September and the course is recovering from the summer stress very well. The turf department over the next couple of weeks will begin to prepare the turf for the winter months with some required cultural practices. I will begin solid tyne aerification of fairways near the end of the month and into October. I plan on core aerating the valley fairways to help remove some of the excess silt accumulated in the thatch from the flood; this will help the turf next summer not dry out and heat up through July and August causing…

BentgrassConstruction

Course Update for September 12, 2013

As I mentioned last week the majority of the construction work has been completed. We finished installing the curbs on Tuesday and after some minor repairs to be completed on Monday we will begin the final process of backfilling and sodding around all the cart paths. During the sodding process  significant areas were roped off and ground under repair signs were utilized to help with the establishment of the new sod. For those of you who do not know yet all areas that have been sodded are now in play. We will have ropes and stakes throughout the course directing…

Course Update for September 5, 2013

It has been 10 days since we aerified greens and the recovery is going well. I will put one heavier than normal topdressing down next week to fill in the remaining holes and smooth the playing surface. The final bunker renovation and sodding is now complete, so please be careful around new sod and keep off areas that are clearly marked. The sodding laid on #8, 10, 11, 16, and #18 are now open for play, and holes #4 and #6 will be open for play but some areas will be marked ground under repair for another few days. Next…

AerificationConstruction

Course Update for August 30, 2013

Greens and tee aerification is now complete. It took longer than anticipated due to the 1” of rain that fell on Monday. During rain events the process stops because you cannot pick the wet material up without streaking mud across the green, so dry sunny weather is beneficial. The team was able to work around the storms and finished topdressing greens Wednesday morning. The team will apply another application of sand in 7 days to fill in the remaining portion of the holes and within 14 days the greens should be healed. We will roll greens regularly to help with…

BunkersConstruction

Course Update for August 22, 2013

The renovations have been going very well and the end is in sight. The course has been through tremendous change since the flood on July 8, and I want all the members to know that the course is coming back together better than I expected. Areas that were finished over the last couple of weeks will be ready for play shortly. #8 rough and bunkers, #9 tees, and #17 rough will all be open for play in the near future. The sod has started to knit together, and once it is stable enough for play I will take down the…
